Anyone here read Circles of magic (Kruhy magie in czech)? It was first real fantasy (for example, hero, which is mage, wont destroy whole world with one spell.) There are 5 parts, one of them includes traveling in time, aiding elves kingdom etc. Main hero, as i already said is a mage named Randal. He was visiting a school of magic, Schola, but he had to leave and get experience to master himself in the art of magic. The book is for children in age 12-15, but i guarantee, that you will enjoy it in every age.

Oh, one more thing. Dont take seriously recensions. Guy who wrote them obviously thinks, that only Harry Potter is worth reading in fantasy literature.

It is interesting, but i dont read so much. Maybe i ill read it but later. Now i read 1984 from George Orwell (i think i didnt wrote it right). It is about comunism in czechoslovak. I ve just started read it so i dont know much. I think it is good book, try it .

It is writed right. Eric Blair (but rather George Orwell) switched last two number in year, in which he had finished the book. (1948)
I finished reading a book from Karel Čapek (Válka s mloky) and I must admit, its great.

Great book (as all from Orwell), but I don't think it's really about communism in czechoslovakia. In 1948, it reflected more situation in USSR than in czechoslovakia, cause there weren't so many signs of totality (and even later there were worse ruled countries than our one). In fact, Orwell based his book on another book by some Italian author, don't know his name now.

You're right, but there are mentioned and shown more signs of totality, not only camcorders. They are watched even by police, the law can be brought by the regime and the people aren't free and can be punished if they are against the regime. This can be taken as that Orwell got inspired in USSR, but in the second half of the 20th century there were more countries like that, e.g. Romania or Spain. Imho it reflects things that appear in all totalities. Btw, I recommend Orwell's book that's a parody on the USSR, "Animal farm" (the characters of pigs can be taken as the leaders of Russia and USSR since 1917 to the era of Stalin), and a movie "Pokání" (filmed in 1984 in Georgia), that reflects stalinism.

I've just started reading recommended books too (because 2 years till graduation) and I started with Poe's stories... it was quite good, some stories were really great, some just bad or stupid. For example I liked "Vraždy v ulici Morgue" or "Zlatý brouk" because these are detective stories and storylines of these are just great.
